We ended up here tonight for reasons that had nothing to do with food — a buddy of mine, a firefighter in the area, tipped us off to it when we were out picking up a bottle of bourbon I’d won. I’d never been to a place that’s simultaneously a farmers market, a deli, and an ice cream shop, so I walked in with zero expectations and no real idea what I was ordering into.

Turns out it’s less “quaint farm stand” and more “snack bar that happens to sell watermelon.” I got the chicken bacon ranch hoagie, the Mrs. got a cheeseburger, and we split an order of cheese fries loaded with bacon and ranch drizzle. None of it was fancy — this is counter-service, paper-lined-basket food — but everything actually tasted good. The hoagie delivered, the burger delivered, the fries delivered. No surprises, no disappointments, just competent sandwich shop execution in a building that also sells local pickles and fresh produce.

Service was counter-order, but they brought the food out to the table, which felt like a nice touch for a place this casual. Ambiance was a non-issue — we were the only ones eating there at 1 of their 4 tables on a weeknight, so “quiet” doesn’t begin to cover it. Food came out right on schedule, portions were fair, and the bill ran a touch higher than I expected for what amounts to sandwich-shop fare.

The bottom line: I’m not driving back for this specifically. But if we’re ever in East Earl again and need watermelon, pickles, produce, coffee, ice cream, and a sandwich in one stop — yeah, we’re going back. That’s a strange kind of recommendation, but it’s an honest one.

Verdict: Whelmed.
